Joshua
Cantwell is the CEO and Founder of Sozo Consulting, a California
accounting, tax, and management-consulting firm exclusively serving
churches and other para-church organizations. Mr. Cantwell has over
8 years experience working with and advising churches throughout the
Bay Area. As a pastor’s son, he brings to the table a unique
expertise and intimate knowledge of church finance, administration,
culture and norms. He established Sozo Consulting to protect and
serve the church by empowering its leaders to comply with federal,
state, and local laws and regulations pertaining to its
administration.
Mr. Cantwell completed his Certified Public Accountant (CPA),
Certified in Financial Management (CFM), and Certified Management
Accountant (CMA) exams after graduating magna cum laude from Santa
Clara University. He worked as an auditor for the largest locally
owned accounting and consulting firm in California and was quickly
promoted to Senior Auditor supervising certified audit engagements
for a diverse clientele. Mr. Cantwell’s responsibilities included
managing the audit engagement staff, compiling financial statements
and footnotes in accordance with GAAP, preparing workpapers, and
communicating with client personnel regarding all aspects of the
engagement.
Intent on offering churches a fully integrated approach to
successful church administration, Mr. Cantwell diversified his
knowledge base by receiving a Masters in Business Administration
(MBA) in Marketing Management in September 2002. The arsenal now
full, he founded Sozo Consulting, embarking on a lifelong calling to
serve Christ’s body, not through preaching and teaching, but through
protecting church leaders, and ultimately His Kingdom’s reputation,
by training church leaders in sound administration, wise financial
stewardship, and strategic decision making. |

Mr. Cantwell is a member of the American
Institute of Certified Public Accountants, California Society of
CPAs, and the Institute of Management Accountants. In his spare
time, he enjoys a variety of sports, and is actively engaged with
his local church body as a musician and small group leader.
